Sermon
of the Week
Topic: "God's Final Call"
Some
day our lives here on earth will come to an end. Once we die,
our destiny is set, never to be reversed. We will be either
in heaven or hell.
There is no intermediate place and no second chances mentioned
in the Scriptures.
Our destiny will have been determined by what we did in response
to God's command to "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ
and you will be
saved" (Acts 16:31). Believe means to place your faith
in Him. Believe doesn't include any good works on our part.
(See Romans 11:6; Ephesians 2:8,9; Isaiah 64:6)
We're to believe on the Lord. This means that He is fully
God, equal with God the Father, and God the Holy Spirit. (See
John 1:1,2; 5:18; 10:30; Colossians 2:9)
We're to believe on the Lord Jesus. Jesus is His human name
and means Savior (Matthew 1:21). He came to offer Himself
as a Substitute on our behalf for our sins (1 Corinthians
15:3). Being sinless Himself, He could do this. His payment
of our debt satisfied God the Father (1 John 2:2).
We are also to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. He is the
Anointed One of God Who, not only died for our sins, but rose
again bodily from the grave after being dead for three days
(1 Corinthians 15:3,4; Luke 24:36-43). Over 500 witness testified
to this fact (1 Corinthians 15:6).
If you are willing to admit that you are a sinner who is incapable
of saving yourself, and place your faith in the Lord Jesus
Christ alone, you have God's promise that you will spend eternity
with Him (John 3:16; 5:24; 14:1-3; 1 John 5:11-13).
Our lives are like a vapor (James 4:14). Don't boast about
tomorrow, for you don't know what a day may bring forth (Proverbs
27:1). The most important decision in life is to believe on
the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior while you have
life left in you.
